Our Camping Trip

We just got back yesterday from an awesome camping trip! We headed down to Wide Hollow Resevoir, just outside of Escalante for some nature lovin' and family time. We rented a trailer (cause Mama don't sleep on the ground no mo) and had a blast. Day One, Connor became a Junior Ranger (and quite frankly, I should have been made one too because I did all the work) and earned a badge, or a star as Con calls it. He learned about tracks - including paw prints and scat (that's poop to you city dwellers), and we made our own mold of a Bobcat track (Connor calls it a Catbob). Then we made tracks in the mud and looked for other kinds of tracks (including one almost three year old who walked right into a huge mud puddle). Lonny did some fishing and the three of us biked to the other side of the lake where Connor tried his hand at some fishing too (with his official Movie Car fishing pole). Day 2 we went on a hike...Connor's first! It was a mile long through the petrified forest. Connor made it for a little while, then his Dad carried him back. After some lunch we went out kite flying (with again, the official Movie Car kite) and Connor got to hold Katie on her leash all by himself. That night, Lonny made a cake in the dutch oven and we sang happy birthday (not because it was anyone's birthday, just cause Connor likes to sing it) and dedicated it to the cake ("Happy Birthday, dear cake") Lonny offered some to the neighbors who had heard us and immediately assumed (shocking, I know) it was Connor's birthday and it was easier to let them think that then explain it, so he got lots of attention. Day 3, we went about 50 miles up the road to Red Canyon. Lonny and I then kicked bicycling butt and rode a bike trail that inclined 700 feet over it's course. Lonny had the bike trailer that had Connor and at times, Katie in it and we all actually made it to the top! (Going down was AWESOME!!) We had good food, nice neighbors and everyone (especially mama) loved sleeping in the trailer. Connor talked in his sleep the first night and said "Pancake" which still cracks me up. He ended up sleeping with Mommy the first night, but then was a big boy and slept in his own bed the rest of the time. Katie was in heaven! There were lots of squirrels, rabbits and lizards for her to chase. We even had a cluck-cluck bird in our camp! We ate great meals, roasted marshmallows and did everything you should do while camping. Connor especially loved playing in the dirt (sigh). We had hot showers and super clean restrooms and our campsite sat right up against the beautiful red rocks. But, as always, we are happy to be home.

Our Perfect Camping Spot

Home Sweet HomeI will thank you kindly not to laugh at my man shorts

And in case you are wondering, Connor face-planted his first night (just about a foot from the fire, thank you very much) which is why he has a shiner. But all in all, I think this boy had a great adventure. We had so much fun, and can't wait to do it all over again with our next little one!
